Thriving through life's challenges
After scheduling, you'll receive an email with intake forms to complete. Please fill these out before your appointment to maximize our time together. If you're using insurance, verify your mental health benefits in advance.
Our initial session focuses on learning your story, exploring your current challenges, and discussing your hopes for therapy. This is a collaborative conversation where we assess your needs and determine how I can best support you.
Together, we'll create a personalized approach that fits your unique situation. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and can be scheduled at a frequency that works for you. Payment is due at the time of service, and I'll work with you to make therapy accessible.
Alec enjoys life and connecting with others. Through both personal experience and professional training, he believes that our mental wellness can improve through awareness, learning, and practice.
In therapy, Alec creates a safe, supportive space where you can explore, process, and ultimately thrive through life's challenges and complex relationships.
Alec grew up in Northern California, Kentucky, and Utah. He is professionally trained as an educator and spent 30 years teaching high school and university students. After retiring from teaching, Alec transitioned from part-time to full-time mental health counseling. As a married father of five and grandfather to three, Alec experiences his own family dynamics. He enjoys traveling, treating each journey as an opportunity to experience new places and people. Whether hiking a city, a mountain, or a coastal trail, Alec thrives on discovering new thoughts, foods, books, films, and live theater.
Alec's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Italian Literature and History from BYU (1995), a Master's in Education from Southern Utah University (1999), and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix (2017).
I am a compassionate mental health therapist who provides a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard and empowered. My client-centered approach is informed by CBT, DBT, ACT, and Narrative Therapy to collaboratively build insight, practical coping skills, and meaningful change.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals navigating the intersection of faith and identity — including members of the LDS/Mormon community working through faith journeys, LGBTQ+ individuals exploring identity within religious contexts, and couples in mixed-orientation marriages. I understand these journeys deeply and provide a nonjudgmental, affirming space.
I accept the following insurance plans. Please verify your mental health benefits before scheduling to understand your coverage and any out-of-pocket costs.
Don't see your insurance? Contact me to discuss out-of-network benefits or private pay options. I'm committed to making therapy accessible.
